Specifically, the absorbent pad, string, and braid are made from a combination of cotton and rayon — rayon is a natural cellulose fiber found in trees and has been used in tampons for more than 25 years. The overwrap, or covering over the tampon's absorbent material, is a common man-made fabric used in tampons, feminine protection pads, and wipes.
We recommend that the wrapper (and the applicator) be disposed of in the trash. But you can flush the tampon. For best results, flush the tampon separately from bath tissue. Frequent flushing is not recommended for septic systems.
